"And God said, "Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness." -- Genesis 1:3-4
From the beginning of creation, God has been all about bringing light into dark places. God took a formless, brooding, dark earth and spoke light into existence. What God did in creation, He also did in the coming of Jesus Christ into the world. John 1:5 says about the coming of Jesus into the world, "And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."
What God did on the first day of creation to bring light into the physical world, He did for the spiritual world in Jesus Christ - the living Word of God. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus took it a step further and told his followers, "Ye are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14). Everyone who believes in Jesus Christ becomes light in this world of darkness, because Jesus lives within them.
As followers of Jesus, we are light - not because there is any goodness in us. But because the Light of the World - Jesus Christ - lives in us and through us! Jesus said about Himself, "I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness" ( John 12:46).
There's enough darkness in this world. People without Jesus need to be moved from darkness to light. Let Jesus shine through you, knowing the Light of the World who dwells in you can transform the lives of those who are still in darkness.
Here's a beautiful song that shares what we ought to make our aim each day. May it be our prayer, "Shine! Jesus, Shine!"
