Giving Thanks to God for Mothers
(Above is a beautiful song - "My Mother's Faith" - sung by Cynthia Clawson and set to photos.)
I hope you can come and worship the Lord this coming Sunday, May 8, which is Mother's Day. It is always a special time to remember and be grateful for the women God has placed in our lives. I am so grateful for the mother that God blessed me with, who nurtured and raised me and taught me to love Jesus Christ - not only by her words, but by her actions. She went home to be with the Lord in 1999. It's hard, in one way, to believe it has been more than 11 years since she died. But, in another way, it seems like a lifetime ago. I can still remember so many things about her, and many of them revolve around her faith and her service in the church. She often hummed and sang hymns around the house as she worked, and she spent a great deal of time visiting the elderly and washing used clothing for babies that was then given to expectant mothers. When I was a child, she would often take me with her to visit the older folks in the church, and I always looked forward to it. I learned from her that God loves people - all kinds of people - and God used that to prepare me for His service.
Just as I have done here, I hope you will take some time over the next few days and reflect on how the mother or grandmother God gave you has impacted you life - hopefully for good. Be grateful to the Lord for them, and if they are still living, by all means get in contact with them and share with them how much you love them while you still can. As I have learned, there comes a day when you can't do that any longer on this earth. If, as me, your loved ones have already passed away, you can use this time to thank God and renew your commitment to Him to live in a way that will bring honor to Him - and to those who have gone before you. I look forward to seeing you on Mother's Day!
